Trouble continues to mount for Kunal Kamra as the Maharashtra Legislative Council has admitted a breach of privilege notice against the stand-up artist for his “traitor" joke on Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a show.
Council chairperson Ram Shinde said that he has accepted the notice against Kamra and referred it to the Privileges Committee, news agency PTI reported.

Breach of privilege is when someone disrespects or undermines the special rights of members of parliament or the legislature. Acceptance of the notice would mean that Kamra might have to appear before the council.
Maharashtra Legislative Council is the upper house of the bicameral legislature of Maharashtra – just as Rajya Sabha is to the Parliament of India – while the Legislative Assembly is the lower house, like Lok Sabha in the Parliament.
The artist has been summoned by the Mumbai Police on March 31 for his “insulting" remarks against Shinde during a stand-up show at Habitat Studio in the city, the video of which was released recently, leading to a controversy.
Shiv Sena workers vandalised the studio after the clip of the show went viral. 12 leaders were arrested but were later released on bail the next day.
Maharashtra Minister Warns Police
Maharashtra’s Tourism Minister and Shiv Sena leader Shambhuraj Desai on Thursday warned the police against “testing the patience" of party workers and demanded an immediate arrest of Kamra.
“We have been asked by Shinde to be observe restraint, that is why we are quiet. As Shiv Sena workers, we know how to drag him out from wherever he is hiding, but as ministers, we have some restrictions. We want to tell the police, do not test our patience and nab him from wherever he is, put him in a tyre and give him ‘prasad’," he said.
Kamra had mocked Shinde in a parody song from the Hindi film ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai‘ during his show, calling the Shiv Sena leader “Gaddar" (traitor) for his 2022 rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray, leading to the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. He then became Chief Minister with the support of the BJP in the state.
